Scar Revision
Scar Revision
Scars are a normal consequence of healing on the skin and in deeper tissues. The final result of a scar will take 6 to 12 months to become obvious in adults, and longer in children. The scar will be affected by age, genetics, skin type and the orientation and position of the scar on the body.
Scars cannot be completely eliminated, but can be optimised using a wide variety of techniques your plastic surgeon has trained in. These may include specialised tapes, steroid injections, laser or surgery. Your plastic surgeon will work with you to determine the most appropriate plan for your scar.

Why it’s done
Whatever the original cause, scars can be unsightly, uncomfortable, or cause restricted function. Genetics or poor healing conditions may influence difficult scar formation. In the most straightforward instances, removal and careful reclosure of the scar will improve the condition of scars. Overactive (hypertrophic) scars or keloid scars (elevated and often painful scarring extending into normal tissue) may be amenable to treatment comfort or appearance.
